June 23 – July 4, 2018: One of the biggest Sarasota happenings of the year is the Suncoast Offshore Powerboat Racing Festival. The Festival is held annually. This race between million-dollar cigarette boats off one of our finest Gulf of Mexico Beaches is one of the must-see Sarasota happenings of the year. July 1 – 28, 2018: The Ringling Museum presents their Summer Circus Spectacular. It’s presented in collaboration with The Circus Arts Conservatory of Sarasota. Various show days and times. July 4, 2018: Sarasota: Enjoy an All American Barbecue and Independence Day Celebration on the grounds of Selby Gardens. Part of the Suncoast Offshore Festival, viewing is free from anywhere downtown including Bayfront Park and Island Park. The display is an awesome sight from a boat anchored on Sarasota Bay. Make sure you bring an umbrella just in case of rain. The Sarasota show starts at dusk or around 9:00 p.m. and is privately funded and charity focused and benefits Suncoast Charities for Children.
 
July 4, 2018: Longboat Key: The Annual Freedom Fest Parade begins at 9 a.m. at Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road. Uncle Sam will be there to greet parade participants. Commissioners, police and fire rescue personnel are in the parade along with children who wish to dress up and walk with their pets. Put on your best red, white and blue and decorate your cars, floats, scooters, strollers, golf carts, bikes or wagons. Cannons Marina is offering a $500 cash prize to the most patriotic business entry in the parade as long as there is a minimum of 10 business entries. Floats may be any motorized vehicle with 4 wheels e.g. golf cart, auto, van, trailer, etc. If you would like to enter your business in the parade, please call the chamber at 383-2466. Registration fee is $25 for business floats and there is no charge for non-profit floats. Parade lineup begins atA� 8:30 a.m. on Bay Isles Rd. July 4, 2018: Anna Maria Island: The 32nd Annual Sandbar Restaurant Fireworks Spectacular is at the Sandbar Restaurant on the north end of the island next to Pine Avenue. Seating at the restaurant is first come, first served. Also, VIP Party Packages are available with prime seating set up on the beach for the fireworks show. Reservations for the VIP Party are required and seating is limited. There are no refunds for inclement weather. Fireworks after dark, weather permitting. July 6 – 8, 2018:A� Get in on the hunt for the 5th Annual Sarasota Lionfish Derby sponsored by and based at Mote Marine Laboratory. Captain’s meeting is July 6, Lionfish hunting derby is July 7 offshore from Collier to Escambia Counties. Weigh-in is July 8 at Mote Marie Laboratory and the public is invited. Last year 429 Lionfish were caught and removed from the gulf. Derbies are a way to help divers harvest Lionfish, provide public education and opportunities to taste the delicious Lionfish for free. July 7 – 8, 2018: Can you dig it? The Dig The Beach – Siesta Key Volley Ball Classic bounces back in for another weekend of fun. Sign up starts at 7:30 a.m. with competition starting at 8:00 a.m. You’re sure to see some great volleyball action featuring pro and amateur players. Siesta Key public beach volleyball courts. Free spectator admission.
 
July 12 – 14, 2018: Time to LOL! It’s the 10th Annual Sarasota Improv Festival when laughter takes over the entire Florida Studio Theatre campus! The Sarasota Improv Festival brings together more than 15 groups of the most creative and inventive improv groups from all across the country and the world to take risks, get raw, and get real on stage in a variety of improv formats. In honor of this milestone Festival, this year there is not one, but THREE, headlinersa��one for each night of the Festival. Headliners include Impro Madrid, Baby Wants Candy, and Impro Theatre. Our own Florida homegrown troupes will appear and the festival will also feature workshops taught by the professional improvisers attending the festival. Various ticket prices and packages. July 25 – 28, 2018: Real Sharks, Real Science! Celebrate the 4th annual Shark Days at Mote Aquarium with a full slate of education and entertainment along with real sharks and real science. Learn about the science behind these incredible animals and ask questions of Mote shark experts. The celebration will include jaw-some fun for the whole family. July 27, 2018: Enjoy an evening on the bay front and some free live music at the 17th annual summer music fest, “Friday Fest”, at the Van Wezel with Reverend Barry & the Funk featuring 3 GrammyA�-nominated musicians, this 8-piece band plays a high-energy set of originals and covers of funk & soul music including Earth, Wind & Fire, Commodores, Kool & the Gang, and Prince. Bring your lawn chair or blanket, take in the music along with the beautiful Sarasota sunset and enjoy food and beverage from local vendors. Outside food and drink is prohibited.
